Gaza, Regional Escalations, and Great Power Competition
New Arab Barometer Polling – Washington DC Launch
The Princeton School of Public and International Affairs in Washington D.C., in collaboration with Arab Barometer and New Lines Institute, invites you to the Washington launch of Arab Barometer’s Wave IX surveys and a policy discussion on public opinion and the evolving regional order in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) amid a rapidly escalating regional conflict.

Based on face-to-face surveys conducted in 2025 across eight countries, Wave IX captures public attitudes during a period marked by the Gaza war, shifting regional alignments, and intensifying geopolitical competition.
The discussion will explore:
- How the Gaza war has reshaped Palestinian political attitudes and perceptions of legitimacy
- How publics across MENA view security threats and the roles of regional and global powers
- How the widening regional conflict—including the war between Iran, Israel, and the United States—is shaping public perceptions of major powers across MENA
- What these trends may signal for future diplomacy, regional alignments, and the credibility of international actors
